I’m a mom of 2 boys, ages 3 and 2. I also run a business from my home with remote employees. I balance clients, meals, laundry, Zoom calls, play dates and everything in between. The reason I work so hard is my family, so making sure I am available to them is vital in my every day.
The #1 switch I made to keep balance between work and life:
I set my phone to automatically go on Do Not Disturb at the end of my work day and on weekends.
I am not getting calls, I am not getting email alerts, I am not checking texts. I can be present with my kids. I also get some much needed screen-free time.
Some might think this is insane, “You have a business, what if someone needs you??” I don’t work in an ER - it can wait. There’s a great quote by Stephen Convey, “The key is not to prioritize what is on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities,” this is how I schedule uninterrupted family time.
